Somerdale Project: Introduction

12th November 2010

A project to photographically document the Cadbury’s Somerdale factory at Keynsham near Bristol is now well under way and progressing well.

Commencing towards the end of October this year, the project which has been granted official authorisation aims to capture the external aspects of the Somerdale plant with a view to creating a portfolio of its industrial architecture. Simultaneously, a historical record of the site during its final months of operation is being made, further enhancing the collection of existing archived photographic material.

The site has proved to be even richer in photographic potential than first anticipated with some excellent natural autumnal and artificial light illuminating a vast array of subjects to be found around the factory. Access to vantage points which are unauthorised to the public has also assisted in some interesting perspectives.

This is resulting in a set of images which are set to be publicly displayed, firstly forming part of an exhibition at the Somerdale site (Fry Club) next January. It is also anticipated that further exhibitions may take place in the Keynsham area and in central Bristol later in 2011.
